Uncontrollable Urinating And Your Dog
Is your new puppy or adult adopted dog having a problem with uncontrollable peeing during play, while excited or when it’s scared? Well, this is not uncommon in puppies or adult dogs that have been abused. Submissive or excited peeing is easy to cure but you have to be consistent.
After first taking your dog to the vet for a checkup to make sure there are not medical problems; then we know that your dog suffers from submissive/excitement issues. This is very common in puppies and very submissive adult dogs so don’t worry, it can be fixed. You will be surprised at how fast we can correct this behavior.
If you dog does not pee when you are in the dominant position like looking in its eyes or greeting it face to face, then it’s probably an excitement issue. However if your dog pee’s when it’s in trouble or when you are bending down to greet him in a dominant position, then of course it is submissive. Luckily, we can fix both of these problems.
First of all, never yell at your submissive dog because it leads to insecure behavior. Train your dog to roll over, shake or sit up and reward her with praise and a treat. Submissive dogs need more kit gloves, no yelling, get to their level when engaging and as always pet them by scratching under the chin; never on top of their head.
One thing to remember is that if they do have an accident, don’t respond to it, just wipe it up. However, when they do go in the appropriate place, you need to praise the dog for a good job. Repetition of this behavior will raise the dogs self confidence and slowly correct the problem of submissiveness.
Having a puppy that pee’s from excitement during their first year is not uncommon. Adult dogs will get excited too when you arrive home from work or have guests, but just don’t react to the accident. Keep a calm tone, clean the mess and remember to make a big deal when they do go in the right place.
Puppies are known for peeing while playing. They just can’t contain themselves with all the excitement. Because of this we recommend that you do all your playing outside to eliminate any accidents on your expensive rug.
When you arrive home, we recommend that you keep your greeting to a minimum. High pitched voices and rowdy behavior can trigger peeing so keep it to a minimum. We do suggest no immediate greeting when you get home as to not encourage the high energy behavior
Hard as it is and tough as it might seem, it will work. So ask your guests to not engage the dog until the excitement has worn off, then they can greet the dog with a quiet, calm hello. Allowing the excitement to wear down before greeting will also discourage the excitable behavior and eliminate the accidental peeing.
