Golf is getting more and more popular thanks to Tiger Woods. As its popularity increases, there are more and more student-athletes that are getting involved with Junior golf programs. With this increase in popularity, comes an increase in competition for college golf scholarships. Due to this increase in scholarship competition, I want to share with you some basic guidelines that will help you get a college golf scholarship.
One thing I want to stress to student-athletes is that what I am about to share with you are SIMPLY guidelines. If you are able to offer a college coach certain intangibles that he/she is looking for they may still offer you a college scholarship.
I speak from experience. I played quarterback at Stanford University, and I am only 6′ tall. A typical Pac-10 quarterback is at LEAST 6′2″.
I hope this gives you HOPE even if your scores do not currently match up to what college coaches are looking for in their prospective golfers.
It is important to note that the fundamentals of college recruiting are still critical to your success. Be sure to do well in the classroom, and put together an athletic resume with video to promote to college coaches.
Typical grades are 3.0+ GPA and a 24+ACT/1000+SAT
The single, most common question I get from parents is, “What does my student-athlete have to shoot to get a college golf scholarship?”

A Division 1 coach is looking for MALE golfers to have a SCRATCH handicap, and FEMALE golfers to have a handicap from 0-5.

A Division 3 coach would like a MALE golfer to have an 8-13 handicap, and FEMALE golfers from 10-20.
